The top investment banking institutions are ones that produce lots of analysts and have huge alumni networks in the finance industry. These are usually referred to as targeted schools, and large bulge bracket banks typically offer positions to students from these schools to join their analyst programs.
In terms of particular schools, Ivy league schools like Harvard and Yale are considered to be among the top for their ability to produce investment bankers (although that is an oversimplification). Other top schools on the list include Wharton at UPenn; Booth at Chicago; Stern at NYU; Kellogg at Northwestern; Darden at UVA and Fuqua at Duke. Other prestigious schools including Imperial College London and New York City’s Baruch College also make the list.
Alternately, you can take a class run by Wall Street Prep which is used to train new hires at many bulge bracket investment banks. This course is great and covers many of the basics of IB. It’s a great option for those who are seeking to enter the field or wish to increase their chances of success.
The course is also available on edx If you have the time to it it’s worth taking. If you don’t wish to spend the time on such an extensive course, then you may want to focus on gaining experience in financial modeling and working on deals.
