Description:
Avocados are delicate fruit and need to be handled with care. All varieties can be refrigerated for a few days in order to maintain some firmness. If avocados are stored for too long at low temperatures they will show signs of chill injury.
Disclaimer:
The development of the avocados should have reached a physiological stage which will ensure a continuation of the ripening process. Avocados require a minimum dry matter content of 21% for Hass and of 20% for Fuerte (maturity requirement). Suppliers use different measuring methods and product standards may differ per country as well as per variety. For the Hass variety, Europe often prefers a dry matter of 23%. For importers that ripen avocados, 23% of dry matter is a minimum.
